Author Topic: No School? Sounds like a challenge  (Read 1855 times)

I'm a senior and I have 4 classes
My school is one of the top 100 public schools in the US with some of the most competitive sports teams (except football)

(Just kidding my GPA is like 3.1 I slack off <3)

I have had several tests in a day.
A running test in PE, an AP Biology test, an Earth Science test, a literature test, an ancient civilizations test, a math test, and an anatomy test.

Why are some people assuming that less periods means a worse education, anyway? Usually, as you have less periods, teachers have more time to teach, which means students actually have time to learn and discuss topics in-depth.

Sounds like you are going to one of those pampered SoCal highschools.
I don't have block scheduling, there are 8 class slots a year. Four first semester and four second semester. I simply took a free period instead of a fourth period both semesters, so I'm only taking 6 classes this year (3 a semester). It is, however, an open campus for people taking free periods. I don't have to check in or anything, I just go home early.

Second semester (when I go back to school, I just finished my finals today) I'm actually taking a "zero period" which means I'll go in to school early in exchange for a free fourth period. Since I'm also taking a free third period by choice, I'm going to get out of school after second period which is lunch. Going home at 11:12 AM is gonna be awesome.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying my school isn't pampered. It's in the top 15 highest scoring public schools in CA so we have a budget the size of Croatia's national bank. Not to mention the ASB department of my school received like 5 million dollars in donations this year alone..

oh man, we get really in-depth sometimes in my english class
we had to read "a rose for emily" and that discussion got really morbid really quickly.

what do you do in a "zero period", take an actual class?

man i'd love it if my school did this, I get to school an hour early every day anyways and end up hanging out with my teacher(s) but if i could get credit/a free for it that would be sweet

I'm probably going to start driving my van up the driveway when its unbearably cold to wait for the bus. Km says she'll go get it when I'm gone lol

The only course my school offers for "zero period" right now is "Weight Training." Since I need to complete 2 PE classes to graduate, I'm taking Zero Period Weight Training to complete that credit and get out of school absurdly early.

what the hell

It gets down to -50C here with windchill and school STILL isn't cancelled.
Texas is like "It's below freezing..."

"Shut, down, EVERYTHING"
