I do not agree with AtlasBlue.

Something that always interested me was sockets, so I always went for making rudimentary instant messenger / chat / irc programs to learn languages. Now I only learn a new language to accomplish a goal, so I already know what I need to make.

Also, doing this will get you familiar with the WinSock library which is invaluable in C/C++.

sockets are so hard, i always wanted to make something like what port used with socket.io and java-script, but when i comes to interacting with the network when i'm scripting i just get lost in everything :(
