Long lost quote.  Sweeden sent a huge machine to Cuba that made beeping noises, was really annoying, and did nothing productive.  It was put in a Cuban concert hall and the exhibition grossed millions of dollars.  Likewise, Cuba sent a line-drawing machine that drew random lines on paper, and wasted a lot of paper in the process.  Its work was put up in Swedish art galleries, and wealthy, brainless patrons paid millions to see it.

Startlingly similar to today's world. Nowadays you can draw a black line on a canvas, call it a metaphor, and sell it for billions.

Lol that was the point, but patrons have usually been stupid, and wanted artists to create works that are easy for them to recognize and in a certain way so that they seem smart when they talk to their friends about it.  Tchaikovsky wrote a symphony once where it was not within an expected structure, and the audience didn't even clap, and just stared at him blankly.  Torn apart, he tried to drown himself in the river just outside the concert hall.  (Luckily, he failed at Self Delete.)

I dont like that art because it's a "metaphor", i just like it because its strange.
