make sure they're plugged in all the way

What are you plugging them into.

Sometimes the front audio ports on computers generate a lot of noise due to their crudeness.

I'm plugging it into my windows 8 tablet and it worked fine yesterday and I try today and it gets all staticy

The cable might have some bad connections. If you have another 1/8" cable try swapping them out and see what happens.

I don't have another cable but I could try plugging the cable into another set of headphones
EDIT: its something to do with the connection to the tablet cause I tested it in my iPod and they work fine

A desktop computer, plugged in the back.

What kind of headphones are you using

is there anything stuck in the audio jack on the tablet like lint or something?
