If anything, school shouldnt be cancelled at all. Deal with the situation and just go. You don't need a free day to do nothing if a small dusting of snow brushes by.

The Mayor is doing his job fine, the only one who's doing anything wrong are the people who have no idea how the weather works.

clearly you have no idea how the weather is because it's literally over a foot of snow for most of the east coast.

there are times when it's right to say "school kids should suck it up and just deal with it", like when it's 3" of snow that stopped 5 hours before school opening.  however this is a foot and more of snow.  even my county closed schools for both thursday and friday, 12 hours before school.  the last time they cancelled this early for weather was hurricane sandy.
