Author Topic: Universities are starfishs  (Read 2019 times)

Sure, sure. Of course it is.
The kids like 12, there's a good bit he doesn't get. So I don't mind explaining it to him.

You go to a university to get a degree, you're mostly just going there to prove to prospective employers you're capable of waking up everyday, paying attention, and handing in assignments on time.

You can learn anything you want of the internet, there's a reason why people still choose to spend years, paying thousands of dollars each year to learn with hundreds of other people in an institution as opposed to just reading Wikipedia articles.

Proof doesn't have to be a sheet of paper that says A+.

Say you created a new OS, a software company would want that so they'd get you to work for them.

That's the whole point of uni?
I thought it was to party and have tons of fun.

Of course I would also study studio recording or something,  but I'm already getting my computer, network, and security certifications in high school so I wouldn't necessarily need to go, but I certainly will.

College is the most fun you will ever have.

experience is better than a degree yeah but not everyone can get experience in the field
some jobs its a given you should have a degree, like a doctor or lawyer

Then don't go to a university and be the next Bill Gates. When that fails, go to night school and work your dead end job.

It's no good going to uni and messing around in class, you might as well stare at a brick wall.

If I want to be a doctor, what do I do then?
Just operate on people as an amateur until they notice my surgical expertise and give me a medical license?

Also, there is a computer science major and plenty of certification programs for computer related skills out there.
Yes, there are a few people who get into the field without dealing with them but it's rare and requires a lot of skill.

I'm not saying I won't go, I probably will go into computer science.
I just wanted to state that it is possible by other ways...

I didn't say that. What I'm saying is that the college/university experience is incredible and I want to experience it even if my financial success doesn't depend on it. I might study something that is a hobby to me that I could also potentially make money doing, and I wouldn't have to take tons of classes and I could make more money by being able to work more. I can even take a lot of my required classes at a local community college for a much cheaper rate too to save even more money.

Most other kids don't walk out of high school with a ccna Cisco certification.

getting the same stuff

just ignoring them

the question is, WHICH ONE WILL YOU CHOOSE?

Gotta catch choose them all!

Go to one college a day and keep rotating until in about 250 years you have a Masters from every college.
