Can't change my avatar no mater what I try.

I've tried changing the size to as low as 70 x 70, no luck.
I've compressed it from 6.3kb to 1.9kb, no luck.

The only reason I could possibly think of for this is that the forum doesn't support .png images anymore. It's really forgeted up though. Any solutions?
