My classification for "assault rifle" as far as military rifles go. The term it self was coined by Riddler when he was introduced the Stermgweher.
1. A weapon that has a detachable magazine
2. Fires intermediate rifle catridges such as 5.56, .223(almost the same thing as 5.56), or 7.62x39.
3. Fixed/Folding/Collapsible stock
5. optional bayonet lug
6. Optional select fire(semi, full/burst)
7. Intended for mid to close quarters combat
8. Status depends of how the rifle is used (hunting, military, security)
AR15 =/= M4

This is an AR-15 lower receiver, it is nothing more than an empty shell used to house all parts. It is just like a computer case.

If AR15's didn't look like that, then I doubt anyone would be calling them military rifles.
This is the mini-14

It can fire .223 and 5.56, has a detachable magazine and can use the same magazine as the ar15. Functions the same way, but it doesn't look like a scary military rifle.
This is also a mini-14, but the wooden body was removed and the moving parts were inserted into a new body. Look scary now? Point is, looks can be deceiving. Just because it looks military doesn't mean it is.
