If I download an addon and stick it in the folder it doesn't show up and if I take out an addon it stays in the select addon menu. please halp

Are you enabling the add-on? also what folder are you putting the add-ons in?

I'm putting it in the add-ons folder? and the only thing i can think of that would cause this is having Greek2me's RTB and the old RTB

Hmm, try to reinstall and then try to stick a simple script add-on in it.
