Intro

Hello forum-goers! I would like to share my project with you. A project that I have been "designing" and "forming in my head" for the past few months. Now, before you say anything, this is not going to be a copy of DrenDran's Blockland Tower. Now that that has been said, I can start. My ambition for this project is to create a central social area for Blocklanders to make friends and have fun with them. Even if you don't want to socialize, I am adding gamemodes (by the time the server is released to the public, there should be 3-4. At the end of it all? 7-9). I have really been thinking this through, and I am looking for help. I have started building the central area, but I am a pretty cruddy builder. I'm not that great at coding either (although I can do some). So, this is why I am posting. If you are a builder, programmer/coder, or anybody that you think I would need, I would love to have your help. I'm working as 1 person currently (while sometimes having friends give me opinions), and I think I now need a team of people to help me. But first, before you say anything, I would like to show you guys how much thought I have put into this.


OVERVIEW

The server will consist of the central area (which will hold gamemodes and a socializing area), as well as a "hotel" of sorts (I should note, I plan to have different buildings for different things. There will be streets and other places where you can go besides the central tower.). Using said hotel will allow the player to rent a room (like in Gmod Tower). However, the rooms will now be completely customizable. You can build whatever you want inside the room (as long as it doesn't block doors, isn't crude, etc.). Then, when you leave the server, the data could be stored in the memory and be reused when you log back in (similar to how Gmod Tower works). I plan to also try to get rid of most of the...unsociable people. I am not referring to people who don't talk whatsoever. In fact I'm fine with those people. I am sure everyone knows who I am referring to (trolls, and the like). I plan to add a lot more as the year progresses (hats, other ways to customize your character, etc.). Another thing I am planning: more advanced chat. I want to create ways to meet other people (besides the obvious "hello"). I am thinking about creating an "Omegle-like" chat system where you can say what you like and you're put into a chat roulette.


Features:

• Nice build with over 8 gamemodes to choose from to play with your friends!
• Player housing system! Customize your living space and invite people over!
• Focuses on the social aspect of Blockland more than any other servers! (at the moment)
• Events that allow you to socialize with other players and have a good time! We have something for everyone!
• A talented dev team that will make sure that no abuse, trolling, spamming, etc. does not occur!
• An interesting building system that allows you to choose whether you want pre-built furniture for your interior or if you want to create your own!
• Different point system! We don't just have money for winning gamemodes. We also give out "Social points (temp name)", "Time points (temp name)", and "Build points (temp name)"!

I hope this allows you guys to realize what kind of server I'm making more easily. I would love to hear suggestions!

Now, I should point out, none of these ideas are final (in fact, I may change a few). Although, I do need the community's help with this one. If you have looked at what is below, then you must be able to meet these requirements. Message SuperCrazyWacko on the forums, and tell her which job you want to apply for. You may also post in the comments, but that might not be as checked as often, and then we will message you about it.

     •You may apply to be full time Builder, full time Programmer, or in the middle, just somewhere in that spectrum. You may apply for a different job as registered, but please note that you might have a harder time getting the role if you don’t have the reason prepared for us.

     •Once you have messaged her, she may not reply immediately. Please wait until she replies before sending more messages. You may have to wait 3 days before you are answered.

     •We will then judge on how good you are in that skill. For Building, you shall be asked to load a previous build you’ve made, and make a small, simple structure. For Programming, we will ask you questions about variable types and functions and all that stuff.

Objective:
      The point of this is to build a GameMode, and this is no easy task. What we need is good builds for the server to not only look nice, but also be a fun playable map. Also, just like any other GameMode, we are going to have to program how the game works, and the components of what will be in the game.


Roles
1. Builder – Level: Intermediate and Above
                            -You need to be able to recreate somewhat-realistically a  
                                      real life building/pic
2.  Programmer – Level: Intermediate and Above
                                     -This requires basic skill mainly in TorqueScript. We
                                              will accept anyone who has a background that includes
                                              python or C++

You need to be in one of these spectrums or have experience in both. If you have a request to be something else and still want to contribute to the team, please include that in the Message.


Requirements
Even though you might have skill in any of these places, we need to make sure that you have the tools that will be able to work with us.  This is mainly Programming wise, so don’t worry builders.

PLEASE NOTE: You do not have to buy anything, or spend any money.

For Mac Users,
      •Please have something that can edit .cs files. These are the main programs. I recommend using a free software called Editra. (link: http://editra.org)

For Windows Users,
      •Please have Notepad++ or something similar as it can easily be used to modify already existing code (as well as add lines of it). http://notepad-plus-plus.org/


For Everyone Who is Planning to Work with Us
        Please have Steam. It is a free form of communication for us, and will be used often. This goes for builders as well. If you have a microphone (or even if you don't!), Skype would be a good idea as well. They are both free.

        We are now accepting admins for the coming storm. If you think that you have what it takes, please post an application in response to this topic. Please use this format:

     •Answer the following question. A fellow Blocklander is arguing with another about kill-stealing. How do you stop the argument from continuing while being polite?
     •Answer the following question. A Blocklander is chat spamming. What do you do to get him/her to stop?

     •Why do you want to be admin?
     •Finally, to make sure you have read thoroughly, what is the goal of this server?


URGENT: We will NOT accept any anti-team behavior. No insults, no mean comments, no bad actions, NADA. It shall not be tolerated in this collaborative effort, and you shall only be warned TWICE.

Also if someone wants to host another version of GMod Tower, they can. Just because Pecon7 hosts a good Boss Battles doesn't mean nobody else can make a Boss Battles server. Same with other servers.

Well, like I said to the other guy. I hope the similarities and differences smooth out over time. Currently, I have not much to show, though. I was only informed of your server just recently, so sorry if this ticks you off. I don't intend to compete with you. Thanks for your thoughts though!
