Be sure to lower the resolution and set the graphics quality to "Fastest".
Typing in "grass.on false" and "grass.displacement false" on the console also alleviates the lag.

I have a computer (a mac no less) from 2010 and with the recent updates it runs good. nVidia 320m with 256mb memory. Play it cigarettet.

I'm on a 2012 Mac and with the graphics settings lowered down all the way it works fine for me.

I've played it for several hours, and honestly, it seems terrible and stupid. I didn't even die very much, I just thing it's a poorly executed concept.
Bashing a tree with a rock for hours is not fun. It's almost all grinding with very little reward.

You could get the mats for a stone hatchet in like 10 minutes



Anyways, I was playing with several friends. We had a nice place and a ton of stuff.
Until it got raided and camped by a hacker. Now we have almost nothing.

I'm pretty much done with this game until they deal with hackers.

I didn't like it at all. A similar game to DayZ and Rust is Project Zomboid, but it is mostly singleplayer. You can host servers and invite friends though, it's in beta.
Project Zomboid is a lot of fun and less frustrating than the other ones, in my opinion. It's top-down so it's less action based, but it's real survival, instead of just defending against other players.
