Oh, and menu music. Why did that go away again?

Dunno. I remember that, if there were no servers online that I like, I would play around in the main menu.

pretty sure it was just sound effects

No one really cared about what I said.

Hm, I expected something like "Wow" or "You're stupid."

It was synth sounds. If I remember, it was synth0 to synth6. And RTB added synth7 to synth11 with their buttons.

I remember I used to build houses purely out of JVS Props which weren't very good (event-wise).
I also didn't realise you could use a numpad for the first 4 months.

This. I noticed when I got pissed off at some troll that I banged the numberpad.

i just went through pressing every button trying to figure out what they did on the demo. I didnt think just to read the controls

my first experience (including demo) was probably on the bedroom map and I richarded around and stuff like usual

Wizzard's Dogfighting mmm.

First memory was I didn't know what undulo was on the tutorial, took a long time to figure out. Rot's zombie mod on slopes with a ton of weapons and vehicles. Buying the game and seeing VH's castle thing in person for the first time.
The mini nuke! That was so cool finding it back in the day.
Wizard's dogfight, MrMulch's L4D2 builds, Yorktown95's servers, LOTS of gcat's server, Zapt was so much fun. I loved building in interiors like the bedroom or kitchen.
A guy moved to my school and coincidentally played it, back around 2011ish.

Something that was really great was the community. I felt like I knew who everybody was, and they were all so cool, I wanted to be like them. The transition from highest ID in a server to lowest ID typically took too quick.

and the legendary Ion Cannon
