Author Topic: Are people too dependent on technology now a days?  (Read 3331 times)

Just posting some real realism.
ok then I'll post some realism, too.
Therapy.

Obviously and if anyone says they wish we weren't, they can go die because they aren't benefiting the human race.

Technology isn't just iPads and computers. Technology is special ways to farm and harvest so we can feed more people, technology is the ability to keep us alive for much longer and recover from diseases which we would stand no chance against had we not developed medicine.

We need to be dependent on technology if we want to keep things heading in the right direction to benefit us.

Exactly, thread title should be more like "consumer electronics and entertainment"

Technology saves countless lives everyday.

How costly would it be to turn me into a cuadruped animal? I'd live in the wild for the rest of my life.

The only thing stopping me from that is not having a way to kill prey naturally. Our teeth could not cut their skin with the fur and our nails are pieces of paper.

we're too dependent on technology that makes critical thinking 100x easier, but everything else i saw is fine
i also want to buy some land so i can survive in it without any major technology just for fun :l

Mostly no, but in some cases, yes.

We're using far too many fossil fuels, they don't turn up as fast as we use them. If someone doesn't invent the water-powered car quickly, we're gonna be back to horses and carriages.

Just posting some real realism.
a realist wouldn't ask if he could be turned into a four legged animal

Well, seeing that nowadays you don't need to wait for a letter to arrive to talk to someone long distance.
Because of technology, quite a few vital objects that used to be hard to make are so much easier now.
Advancements in technology that gives disabled people a chance to walk or use their arms or even see or hear again.
Transportation has become a LOT faster because of technology. what used to be a few months journey is now just a few hours.
Computers that let you access nearly every source of information on a whim at damn fast speeds.

Some people like to give cell phones and computers a "bad rep" because of what people do with it, but if you look at how everything works, we do depend on technology, and that isn't a bad thing. Sure, it wont do us any good if we get stranded, but that's when natural instincts kick in.

Absolutely.
There have been a lot of times when I've wanted to just go into the wilderness with just a knife and sleeping bag (if that) and see how long I can go for, still planning on doing it but I'm not sure when.
A hermit's life is the life for me~

People have been dependent on technology since the dawn of humans

We need to be dependent on technology if we want to keep things heading in the right direction to benefit us.
pretty much this
i don't think the words "too much" can be applied in such as general question as this thread's title
technology pretty much literally describes human advancement.

People are too reliant of calculators and checking face book on their iphones every 5 seconds. It is quite harmful since we lost our social component and the ability to do math. I still do home work on stretch paper. I also look physical books because then that means I actually own the book, plus it doesn't need a battery.

I believe in positive and negative dependence.
I consider these to be negative:
spending too much time looking at a phone on facebook
using calculators(if want to use your mind to figure out 7 times 9 then you are pathetic)
labor saving gadgets that make people lazy

Positive:
Improved farming technology
exploration drones
drones for operating in hazardous environments like nuclear reactors
advanced gps
flight controls
ect

Movies such as Wall-E and Her show to me that technology will never truly surpass human interaction and thought.
