Author Topic: Milkshape Terrain In Blockland  (Read 9235 times)

v21 was not the end.
We can recover with this.
Is good.

You should add a GUI that has buttons to load, or save a custom map. There could also be something like mission editor except all it does is make this terrain in-game, if do-able.

This isn't real terrain per-say, it's just generated in Milkshape and precariously added in the game.

That's the point. This is and WILL become a decent replacement...
For now.

Make It happen people. You can do this. .obj segments, vehicles without collision. Someone do something.

I always imagined a new map system compatible with shaders.
Hopefully this is it!

Just the normal .dts file that always works in blockland, nothing else.

I was thinking something like Filipe's Custom Vehicles. Being able to use a GUI to edit the height of the vertices, and a texture mapper to cover each face with no-line textures, although I don't have the skill set to script such a thing.

This should probably be moved to "Maps", and kill the silence of a long awaited awakening of terrain.

Moving this to maps would silence this post, as you can't post in maps.

Wait until Badspot implements a new shape obj or optimizations for StaticShapes.

Ive actually did this a while ago with smooth shaded terrain.

A major issue (and pain in the ass) is collision. As it only has a limit AND has to be convex (i think)

Yeah, the terrain being concave the convex collision would mess things up a bit. Unless there is a way to edit the limit on the collision mesh "simplify this stuff". Is that a brick, static object, or a something else?

If the collision mesh is concave (which with terrain it will basically always be), the only thing that collision works with is players. And for terrain, that's a major issue.

Break it up into chunks?

I wish Badspot/kompressor (probably kompressor, let's be honest) would implement a new terrain system.

Yeah, but they will most likely say what they have always said. "Terrain Is Ugly" "Slows Developement"
