fast = fun?

it kinda takes a simple mind to be that entertained that easily XD

the "game" or sport itself seems so simplistic that you may as well sit in the rotunda watching a giant one of these representing whats on track.
as a spectator sport, F1 is entertaining for feeling how fast and powerful the cars are in person. It's a great experience.

Watching on television, the strategy and drama going on is extremely entertaining, and F1 has changed rules to get many more close races. The drama is some of the best parts, I still remember when Vettel and Webber from the same team took each other out because of how hard they were racing. There is rarely a boring race with cars just parading around.

and even outside the races, car design and construction is relatively free so slight technological changes can really affect a team's performance.

Unfortunately I live in the northern US, so I've only been to few races. I do go to the Indy 500 every year, which never fails to be exciting.

Here's what I meant by hotheaded.  He wasn't exactly the nicest driver.

Watching racing? Total bore.

Being behind the wheel? total thrill.

You're thinking of NASCAR.

An F1 track looks more like this:
Except a lot more passing happens in NASCAR.

I'm not positive, but I think in F1 you're racing against the clock, not against other cars. You're going for the fastest possible lap time, not first place in the race.

That's how it is when I track my car, and I'm grateful for it. Passing is dangerous, it's frustrating when you get stuck behind someone that's slow but that's what straightaways are for. I only see people pass on corners if it's a massive difference in car ability, which doesn't exist in F1. The rest of the time it's dangerous stuff that I've seen people thrown out for. That being said, most people are courteous and will let you pass them by taking a wide outside line (I do that when people in Porsche Turbos ride my ass) but in F1 where every millisecond counts I don't see that happening.

F1 is the racing cars right?

30 guys all with the same car go around in circles for an hour or 2.

what kind of person can be hotheaded about that? by definition, that could be one of the most boring "sports" there is.
I thought F1 also had non-round tracks
Or i'm just thinking about indycar

by definition, that could be one of the most boring "sports" there is.
You must of never heard of fishing.

This is why you don't go skiing.

Thats qualifying, what happens before raceday so drivers can aim for pole position. On raceday, its a race for points, not the clock.

Yeah pretty sure its this. Usually the F1 races are part of some GP event where the person who consistently places highest average over the course of the race series will win. Pole position is aimed for in the qualifying rounds. Doesn't matter if you get passed so long as you aim for lowest lap time.

"Schumacher encountered Warwick's Jaguar on a slow lap resulting in lost time for Schumacher. As retaliation for being in his way, Schumacher swerved the Sauber into Warwick's car, hitting the Jaguar's nose and front wheel. Enraged by the German's attitude, Warwick drove to the pits and chased a fleeing Schumacher on foot through the Sauber pits. He eventually caught up with Schumacher..."
