i would just think youre not getting stuff out of me and then start thinking about snoop dog

i am extremely surprised at how progressive the forums are on this subject

what the forget lol, you think it's an invasion of privacy? Seriously?
What the forget do you think they do with polygraphs?? Sell them on the black market? Jack off on them?
I don't want people monitoring whats going on inside my head. What you tell the court should be what they see, not what they found when looking inside your mind.

I think that investigating and using what you find in a crime scene is fine, but once you have to use technology to figure out what someone is really thinking you are going too far.

Absolutely not because just like sir doodle mentioned, stress is the factor behind how lie detectors work and stress can be easily caused by anything.

If they look in my mind, they'll find nothing but very cringy images. >:3

Or like Atton said (for you KOTOR fans), play pazaak in your head.

Edit: how the hell would this make the government save money?

If they were used as a deciding factor in court cases then you could skip the investigation costs and just hope that it got it right.

Yeah, let's all gather round our knees and pray that the machine doesn't have a malfunction because it will state the destiny of this suspect. Justice efficiency 9001%

I'm not saying I support it, I think using them at all is a bad idea. I'm just answering your question.

And I posted why that would be a terrible idea. Anyways, lets get back on topic.

why dont we invest a truth-o-scope instead so it goes off when we tell the truth instead of lie

I wouldn't want them used even if they were 100% accurate. It's an invasion of privacy, in my opinion. They should be able to investigate without forcing the accused into any tests.

I think they should be optional in court, so you would decide take one if you wanted to help support the fact that you were innocent. Of course, this wouldn't be a deciding factor.

How is it an invasion of privacy? No polygraph test is forcefully done, it is just an option (mostly with paternity tests and if you are accused of a very minor crime).

something isn't a lie only if proven.
and these machines can't prove things either way.

They aren't valid or reliable!

Lie detectors are stupid.  People can easily beat them and/or act all nervous causing it work against them.  When I was little, someone covered one of my shirts in shaving cream.  I got mad and somehow my mom worked into her head that I did it and threatened to take me to a lie detector at the police station.  I was so freaked out that I cried lol

I am surprised at how many great opinions we have on this so far!

When you are a kid though, you cant really control yourself from feeling a certain way.
