introduction;
better ban management is a complete overhaul for Blockland's current ban system.  i will be working to entirely redo the system in a much more feature-rich, and user friendly fashion.  this will include changes to the very basics, such as changing the actual ban prompt to include more fields, all the way to a system that allows you to share your records with your server friends or even just to your multiple servers in order to keep a very persistent and orderly system.  i think this will help the larger, more populated servers out in an absolutely great way.  with this tool you will be able to track the past bans for a users, including the reason and the person who issued the ban, or even to leave notes on an individual user.  i hope this project gets some support seeing as i have a tendency to leave projects about midway due to lack of interest, however i do believe i will take this one where it needs to go in order to be finished.

complete feature list;

    • track log for users, including previous bans and reasons
    • leave notes on users profiles so that other admins can see them
    • allow for a voting system to either add a note to a players record or to temporarily ban them if an admin is not present
    • a better looking and functioning ban GUI
    • (maybe) a realtime updated website that will display the most current bans
    • ability to share these details with other users
    • other things that are thought of on the spot or requested

    news/changelog;
    03/12/2014 - restarted the project, started redoing GUI's

    beta testing;
    i need you to sign up for beta testing!  i will be distributing a functional copy of the mod within a week or two, so i'll need the testers by then

    list of testers:

      • none yet

      This sounds awesome, I'll help test if you want.

      love it, ill contact you via PM when i have a beta build ready
      also i forgot to mention that any suggestions or requests are very welcome

      Having a website dedicated to showing recent bans is an insanely bad idea and I suggest you scrap it immediately.

      i see no reason as to why bans should be a private thing
      i'll obviously allow the user to turn on/off if they want to participate in sending their ban reports to said website

      yessssssssssss

      Have a database of IPs associated with BLIDs, so when you ban someone, it auto bans all IDs that have ever been used by the IP of the offender.

      so implement autoban of ID's that are associated with a banned IP?

      can you send broadcasts or spam your contacts with group chats

      OT: sounds really cool
      i really hate the way the default banning gui is set up

      yea, and the database is compiled on the website from all servers running the mod. So there should be an auto check to see if a banned IP is trying to join. If so, then CONSOLE bans them for the same reason and time as the original ban, minus time that has already passed sense the original.

      this has been added to my mental notes of things to be added

      >make mental note

      well it's also in this thread so whenever i post updates it will be seen so i kinda cant avoid it lmao

      i need someone to join my server so that i can ban them in order to test the new system

      this is the GUI as it currently stands

      the 'view' GUI is currently being designed since its previous display was publicly hated

      any suggestions are welcome (not really though)

      the server information text will eventually be replaced (obviously)

      You should make toggleable options built into the GUI, like an options button. In the options menu you can set preferences. These would include:

      • Can delete ban records, including clear list, delete ban, and clear ban record (Host, SA, A)
      • Can edit records (Host, SA, A)
      • Can edit options (Host, SA, A)
      • Can ban (Host, SA, A)
        ->A sub-option that allows you to set maximum ban time for admins and super admins (1 minute to permanent)
            ->If banning is set to, say, Host only, the option to set max ban times for SA and A are grayed out
      • Can leave notes (Host, SA, A)
      • Can send notifications (Host, SA, A) (See below)

      I've also been thinking about a notification system. This would basically allow admins to "star" important bans. So after banning a player, an admin can click a box at the bottom of the players' ban record that says "Notify". Once clicked, a small window opens up. This window would have a drop down list where the admin can choose who to notify. This would include "All Admins", "SA and Higher", and "Host". Below this is a small text box where the admin can leave a note for the next admin to read. The admin can then click "Send" or "Cancel".

      When another admin opens up their ban management window, an option called "# New Notifications" (or something like that) would allow them to read through notifications left by other admins. Each notification would tell you how long ago it was sent and by who, as well as the name of the player that the notification is about. Admins can delete notifications or store them. Notifications are no longer considered new once opened (like e-mail).

      Notifications would be useful if the host is away or not in the server. It's also a good way to spread word among several admins, some of which may not be in the server at the time of the ban.
