Author Topic: Unexpected grade for my debates  (Read 782 times)

Out of loving no where, our teacher decided to grade our performance in the debates. Not only that, but she was probably stubborn and did not want to go with what the other teachers decided (pro then con then pro then con then pro then con) and then tutored us to do pro pro pro pro then con con con con. Our whole argument was forgeted up by them and we were totally taken off guard.

We lost.

We got points deducted for losing, but that isn't the meat of the problem. I have a severe case of glossophobia. I do not like going up in front of two classes of kids and speak in front of judges. I was too nervous to notice my time was up (I was buried in my cards because I was too loving nervous to look at everyone in the eye) and I was in the middle of my best argument when the judges said "Thank you" and took me off the stage.

My teacher deducted points for this, and my voice was some how low. Even though I was stuck a few times and I mumbled some times, it was not that part of the issue. I actually do not know a proper volume of voice, and that is why I may not or may be loud at times without noticing it. This is because of an ear thingy that is off topic.

Everyone in my class got a 95+ while I got a 79, and the debates are a test grade. She does not even know how many times I practiced in front of a loving mirror and timed myself. I was just extremely nervous and my team captain is a bloody Riddler and commanded me to go first.

What a load of stuff.

have you tried outright telling them

to be fair, you were only glossing over your arguments

How does that american school system even work? Everyone seems to get illogically good grades all the time.

It doesn't

I was dead-on-the-floor surprised that I got an A in my Personal Finance class last semester, when every little anything we did got graded.

I got a 97% in personal finance last year. IDK what that translates into, but it's pretty good.

It was rather how badly we lost.

People often just make up stories about how they got an unfair grade when in reality no effort or time was put into the assignment at all. I'm not referring to this topic though.

we had to do speeches for language arts and i accidentally put my cards in the wrong order and got a low score cause it got cut short

around a 79 like op lol

For like 10 seconds I was trying to find a nice fact. We weren't really allowed to right down our speech on note cards, but rather make our own fillers.

I blame the captain for putting the glossophobic person up first. I know everyone gets nervous but I seriously cannot stand it. My legs were about to collapse and I got super embarrassed when the judges booted me off while I was in the middle of a fact.

i was the captain in a debate team for english class a few weeks ago
i deliberately gave a few kids few few lines, because i knew that they were nervous and didnt really want to talk

a lot of people act like that is bullying them or something dumb that like, but in reality they are glad, they dont want to talk.

teacher sounds like a bitch
