Author Topic: Blocklander's in the Chicago area, I need your help!  (Read 925 times)

Note: I'm not proposing a meetup, sadly, this is a romantic vacation with my fiancee and we're not planning on seeing anyone but each other (biblically).

Hey there peeps.

So my spring break is this coming week and the fiancee and I are going to be taking a scenic trip on the Amtrack trains from Toledo, OH to the windy city itself, Chicago, IL. We'll be staying at a lovely hotel in the city so we're wondering if there's anything worth spending our time doing as well have roughly a day and three quarters of time spent there, so we don't want to be bored between massive love romps.

Besides the obvious stuff like The Bean or Sears Tower of course, as everyone in America knows that stuff. I'm wondering if there are any inexpensive/free and fun things to do in the city that natives would recommend. If you all remember I am 21 now, so nothing is off limits.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Love and kisses,
Swholli

I live in Chicago, where are you going to stay at/near

I live in Chicago, where are you going to stay at?

Oh dear.

The Chicago Inn I believe it was called. Some website gave it a four star rating while another three, but either way it was an affordability nice hotel really close to the station and since we won't have a car and be limited to walking and public transportation, I figured it was the best bet.

not at all attempting to play down your trip, but chicago isnt really the place id go to take a girl on a romantic trip

have you thought about instead going further east into something like pennsylvania?

im in cbus and ive only ever been to chicago 2 times, both on a trip for a tech conference, i would love to suggest a coffee shop that was right down the street from my hotel, but sadly i cannot remember it at the moment, if i do i will suggest it; would be a wonderful place to grab breakfast, great food, great service/ambiance, and not too hard on the wallet

Try and buy cheap Blackhawks tickets if you could. Even if you don't like hockey, you could go for the fun of it!

Oh no no, I know it's not traditionally "romantic" that was more of a joke.

Loretta's actually on the rag this week anyway, we're going as sight seers and lovers of big buildings/trains.

Seriously, the train trip is more the point of this trip, we just wanted somewhere (like a big city) to stop in between rides that was close.

Hey, you don't have to try so hard to impress us lol.  I think it's obvious why you posted here.

Besides, do you really think there's a significant portion of the forums living in chicago, and around your age that has any decent suggestions?

This is the wrong forum if you are really looking for suggestions.

Oh also, I've been to Chicago before as a cousin used to live there, so I'm rather familiar with it, I just haven't been in quite some time and was hoping to go again. Take one of those boats on the river or some stuff, weather depending.

Even if you don't like hockey, you could go for the fun of it!
that's an oxymoron

Yeah, dude, I know. I just know there's probably a relatively decent portion of the population from there considering the size and population of the city, and granted it's a relatively bored city, I wanted to see if there was anywhere that folks who live there every day think is neat.

I'm going to be honest with you all now, as a mostly suburbanite my whole life, big buildings are still something I cherish the novelty of. I mean literally sometimes I drive up to Cleveland just to walk around downtown (and hopefully not get shot by Lebron James fans).

intelligentsia was the name of the shop, i strongly urge you to grab some breakfast or something there, absolutely wonderful

anyways, its definitely capable of being a beautiful city, and in some parts it most definitely is

hope you have fun on your trip
