Hey, could someone recommend me a wm? Preferably a tiling wm like awesome but more easily configurable.

i3

Or if you prefer performance and configuration over appearance, ratpoison

I've already tried i3. It says that it is also a dynamic wm but idk how to get windows to float.

Super+Shift+Space is the default keybind. Did you even bother to look at the config file first or running man i3, or maybe even look at the i3 wiki to find that out?

Not really. I was busy trying to figure out how awesome's loving config file works. I hate lua.

I want a wm instead of a de because my laptop is slow. Now that I have i3 it doesn't take 10 seconds to open skype.

In fact, I'm really impressed. It opened almost instantaneously. And it also has an option to make a window float like on a traditional de.

Yeah that's why it's a dynamic WM. That's not revolutionary
