Well I would assume there be left overs and split species. At one point ants, wasps, and termites all evolved from one specie. Humans mostly likely came from gorillas and we still have gorillas today. So the human of today will be competeing with hybrids, new evolved humans, mutants, cyborgs, robots with a transferred conscious, ect and bunch of other crazy stuff.
Also forget realism, a giant rubber duck will om nom the earth
