Okay, so for as long as I've had this computer I remember it occasionally having the display driver crash.
I've had it for 4 or 5 years and absolutely nothing I've tried has fixed this.
Specs when I first built the computer:
AMD Radeon HD 5570
AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.5Ghz
4gb ram
ASUS M5A88-EVO motherboard
Some old power supply that i replaced (blue star) or something
When I built the computer for the first few months or so there was no crashes, then it started to crash maybe once or twice a month, a few months later it started crashing more, and then more and more as time went on. Eventually it started crashing atleast once every time I tried to play a 3d game. The display driver would always recover, most of the game did not.
I decided i should update my graphic drivers to see if it would fix the problem, but it only made it worse. Every time the display driver crashed it would also BSOD and require the entire computer to reboot.
So, last year on my birthday i got a new graphics card. Gigabyte AMD Radeon 7750. I wiped out the old drivers and installed the latest ones for this graphics card. No crashes for a few hours and then they returned, still BSOD-ing my computer. This is the point i started trying every solution i could find on the internet.
Wiping out the old driver files useing various driver uninstallers and reinstalling the current ones
Installing the drivers without the Catalyst Control Center
Messing with registry files
Switching PCIe slots
Checked memory sticks for errors (there were none)
replaced bad powersupply for a better one (Thermaltake TR2 600watt)
Upated BIOS
Wiped hard driver and reinstalled windows + Drivers
after trying all of those the BSODs still appear. mostly every 2nd time i boot up a 3d program
Current Specs:
Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 7750
AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.5Ghz
4gb ram
ASUS M5A88-EVO motherboard
Thermaltake TR2 600watt
Yesterday I decided to see what would happen if I tried to use the onboard graphics (AMD/ATI Radeon 4250) and so far it hasnt BSOD'd at all yet.
I'm really confused about this.
Did I happen to get 2 bad graphic cards in a row?
Is there something wrong with my PCIe slots?
What do you suggest I do?
If you need more information just tell me.
