Author Topic: Vehicle Limit  (Read 1689 times)

I believe I have made some topic like this before, but I never got an actual answer. I was seeing that so many friends on blockland are able to increase vehicle limits in the advanced options (which I know how to do) Yet when I do this, it still keeps it at 20 instead of the limit I set it to. I would like to know if this is where badspot topped it, or if there is something I can do to fix the amount of physics vehicles on the server. Thank you.

Under Advanced Options, set every limit to 9001.

That does nothing, only to the values that are not restricted.

Badspot limited it to 20 vehicles, as more lags other users.

Really?

Really?
Yes there are a lot of really strange ambiguous limits placed on various things in Blockland that I have not been able to understand. It might very well simply be an engine limitation, in which case, Badspot why you no give your game to someone who will remake it in a significantly better engine for like money or something.

Also the Datablock limit is 4000ish; which is stupid as all crack-cocane users because I managed to hit that limit using only brick add-ons. Clearly this value needs to be changed if it actually can be.

First of all, engine rewriting would take years, you'd have to rewrite everything, key word : Everything
Second, I have never hit the datablock limit at all, I have tons of add-ons, all enabled, I havn't even gotten near hitting the limit, how do you even do this?
Obviously you do not understand why these limits are in place.

Earlier in v21 and prior to that, I remember being able to have more than 20.  It must have been in one of the updates that prevented it from happening.  I know I built a car rental facility with a dealer across the street and used 34 vehicles.  Must have been in v20 though, since it was in the bedroom.

Most of those limitations are a result of the stupidly small packet size limit of 1 kibibit (128 bytes) badspot has for whatever reason profusely refused to raise.

For example, vehicle updates get priority over player updates in networking, so the number of vehicles has to be limited so that a rogue player can't spawn 100 vehicles and all of a sudden nobody can see anyone else moving.

If a host has made the limit that high, and a player has come online and done this, then the host is also partly responsible for not being able to moderate a server properly.

I suppose its not inherently obvious that everyone and their mothers would be aware that an engine rewrite would take a long time, so thank you for keeping me up to date in that department, I don't know what I'd do if I just went around saying things without thinking about them first and didn't have anyone to tell me these sorts of things. So again, thanks <3

Whose idea was it to make vehicles more important then players, I can't really think of a reason why that should be the case (except maybe that it's easier to update vehicles then players?); but I can't really say I have enough experience making multiplayer games to answer that either so... w/e

Exactly the reason why I question the existence of the 20 vehicle limit. Granted I can't think of very many scenarios in which you would need more than 20 vehicles, but I've definitely hosted fort wars servers where having that would have been a nice improvement. That being said in the current state of Blockland's vehicle physics, vehicles themselves aren't very usable.

Vehicles aren't very usable? What?!

As much as I love downloading and driving vehicles, they're very unstable and hard to control. The vehicle physics in Blockland really leave something to be desired. I'm not giving Badspot a call to action to fix them right now but hopefully in the next update vehicle physics are a bit more stable and planes don't automatically warp into the ground no matter where you land. It's very hard to do anything in BL's flight games, which is why you have to take a test; the vehicles just warp into the ground instead of crashing.

I've noticed this problem more often with modded vehicles, but take for example the TANK vehicle, and try to drive it around a build or two, often times it will get stuck in random things or on 1x1f bricks, or find itself glitched through objects or other sorts of annoyances. Controlling them is also a train wreck most of the time, I have to drive on slow to keep these things even remotely maneuverable through any structure.

I expected with the shader update, which removed terrain, the one and only thing vehicles seemed to work with, that it would include a patch to make vehicles and bricks work together more, obviously that isn't the case, and it bums me out D:

what i think is the worst on vehicles is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to drive down a street in a city unless its like 64 blocks wide
