Author Topic: VGA to 3 RCA (PC via TV)  (Read 756 times)

I just got a VGA to 3 RCA cable so I could project my computer's screen onto my TV,
but I can't seem to figure out how to use it.

(VGA goes in my computer, 3 RCA goes into the tv)

TV Information:

Sony Tube TV
S-Video female
3 RCA (Yellow Red and White) female
Works with my WII
Works with my PS3
Standard Deff.

Computer Information:
DELL Latitude D610
VGA female
4 USB female
Windows XP Pro
Direct X GPU
Works with S-video via TV (black and white :c)
Works with VGA via different monitors

Things I tried:

After I plugged in,

1 Right clicked my desktop and looked in Graphics Options (no 'output to' option)
2 Wen't to Display/Settings (No secondary monitor shown)
3 Googled Solutions (Nope)

So if I can't use this, then was it completely useless to get? (if it doesn't work)

Does your computer actually convert the signal coming out of the VGA port or do you need a separate converter box? If so are you using one or just a plain cable?

It sounds like your laptop has that ability given it has an s-video output but why is the color signal not coming through?

if you can't understand a sentence that doesn't really need punctuation and therefore doesn't use it, then i think you may need to get some help

this is kinda irrelevant, but i love how whoever named those parts female and male has loveual humor.

You realize that RCA is two parts audio one part video. That means that the adapter is just.... what the forget?

They make those? No wonder it doesn't work, that's like trying to run an audio signal through a video port. Maybe the video by itself would work, but if there's a company that makes this sort of thing, it probably wouldn't work at all.

Are you sure your TV doesn't have VGA? Mine does and it's relatively old. (2006-2007 I guess). And, as stated before, the R and L cables (red and white respectively) should be connected via Auxiliary to your computer. Not via VGA.

He's not trying to connect the audio up just the video signal. RCA isn't a signal encoding or transmission standard or anything it is just the type of connector. Both brown townog composite and component setups typically both use the same RCA connector but are different signal standards.

If his laptop's video adapter isn't able to convert the VGA signal to what I'll assume is single cable NTSC he will need an inexpensive converter which is less than $20. If it does he should be able to run the VGA to RCA cable straight out of his laptop while just having to change some settings probably.

it's... not really based off of loveual humor, though (to my knowledge). it's based off of what the plugs and ports can be compared to in human anatomy.
if you really want to take that route, then you could say that the people who coined the names of small units of computer storage had food on his mind: nibbles, bits, and bytes.

The only way you can do this is via S-Video.

RCA and VGA are incompatible without a converter box.
