Author Topic: HAVE YOU SEEN DIVERGENT? HAVE YOU READ DIVERGENT?  (Read 1453 times)

Is it bad this is the first time I've heard of both the movie and the book?

I know family (cousins/nephews/nieces, I think) of the author. >:D

It seems like more generic 'strong female lead,' and 'survival of the fittest' bull malarkey targeted for 13 year old girls like Hunger Games. Blech.

someone summarize detergent for mus
society is in chicago and can't leave
5 factions that value different things
you're born in one, but can choose when you're 16
you take a test in a drug-induced simulation to determine which to choose
MC Beatrice Prior is in the faction that values selflessness (Abnegation) and parents are part of government
she takes the test and gets three results instead of one
gasp, she's...~Divergent~
she chooses the faction that values courage, Dauntless , bunch of crazy forgets
initiation, she has to fight and conquer her fears
romantic interest with her instructor named "Four"
their fears are tested in another drug induced simulation, but divergents realize it's not a simulation
intelligence faction (Erudite) is killing divergents, so Four helps her hide it
she learns his name is actually tobias and his father beat him with belts
she passes initiation
intellilgence faction implanted a drug in all Dauntless to make them kill the Abnegation and overthrow the government
doesn't affect divergent
Her parents saving her and she kills her best friend's boyfriend
Four is controlling the Dauntless under the simulation because he is under the simulation
she pleads with four and he comes up from under the simulation
he ends the simulation and dauntless are split between loyalists and Erudite supporters
~end Detergent~

gee, a dystopian city with pre-destined societal roles? never heard that one before

maybe i'm not giving this one a fair shake though

Eh I'd still watch it
the movie is only a little different than the summary i gave

The first two books were actually ok, but it completely went downhill in the third book.

Is it bad this is the first time I've heard of both the movie and the book?
You're not alone on that one.

I swear to loving god, if people hammer me for not reading this at school like a year ago with Harry Potter, I will blow a gasket.

The day when people begin to hammer me about Divergent is the day I'll seriously consider sucking on a muffler.

The day when people begin to hammer me about Divergent is the day I'll seriously consider sucking on a muffler.

That reminds me of the carolcat fanfic I wrote once. But that's another story for another time.

How exacly can you see Divergent? Or even read it? Well you can read the word, but you cant see Divergent itself because its an adjective

Relevant

also, got back from watching the movie earlier today, misses a few things from the book but was otherwise good.

My neighbors are closely related to whoever wrote the book. I think she's even been on our street.
