You guys do realize that hard drives have REALLY powerful magnets INSIDE them right?
Unless you get like a stupid powerful magnet, you're probably not going to damage your hard drive.

I found that out when I was trying to glue my broken drive and the torx driver kept getting stuck to the base of the arm. Then I noticed that it's a bigass magnet.

I understand, but I don't have a lot of money to spend recovering some data.
i could bring the HDD to a local place, but I doubt they could do much with it.
How much would it cost out of curiosity? I'd seriously consider chipping in a few bucks to recover that.

Last time I checked to recover data out of a dead 120GB SATA drive, the budget was 2.5K USD. So I opened it up and filled it with glue. I also used the 5.200 RPM disks to cut some paper and plastic. xP

Recovering a HDD with a magnet? Yeah kiss my ass buddy

My dad's HDD gave out on him and friend recovers it all, I think. So I wouldn't think it's all gone, is it?

Depends how damaged the platters are.

either way, it is almost 800GB of data, theres no way between heaven and hell that I can afford that if 120GB was $2,500
