Author Topic: Okay what the forget is this  (Read 714 times)

This is the third time this has happened, and the second time today.
I can't activate any windows on my computer. If I try selecting a window, or try right clicking to open a dialogue box, it just backs right the forget back out.
I've been out of the house all day, and when I returned, I found my PC like this. I had it done anything on it other than turn it on before leaving, and when I returned, I found I couldn't click stuff. When I clicked on a window, it would flash as if it had activated (and the window would change it's color to indicate it was selected), and then it would instantly unselect it. Desperate to fix it, I restarted my computer, and I could click again.
Now, as I am trying to play a game, it happened again. I was changing some graphics options when the window suddenly deselected itself, as if I had clicked another window. And of course, I couldn't activate any windows.
I'm pretty pissed. It's 10:24, and I'm not going to spend 10 minutes rebooting my computer just so I can play a game for 30 minutes. Anyone know how I can fix this?

have you actually tried rebooting your computer at all
because that's probably your answer
also: why would you turn it on before leaving instead of turning it on when you came back

open the cmd and type this:
Code: [Select]
sfc /scannowkeep in mind if you have any windows altering mods (like a theme pack that requires an edit to a windows .dll) you'll need to reinstall

I clearly said I rebooted the first time it happened today.
I turn it on before leaving because it takes forever for my PC to start up. I'd rather have it ready when I get home.

I would do that if I COULD CLICK ANYTHING

reboot your computer, then?
it also sounds like a possible driver issue, have you tried using a different mouse?

oop, sorry.
set your computer on fire.

It could be a driver issue
One day my external hard drive crashed because I accidentally pulled out my ps3 controller, and since then I can't plug my controller in without the hard drive crashing. The one USB port I have available is the one I switch out everything on, and I keep my mouse plugged into it when not using anything else.
So basically, my mouse uses the same port that my DS3 tool driver is installed on, and plugging my controller into the port crashes the hard drive. My mouse does not crash the hard drive, but there is most likely something wrong with the USB port itself thats causing this issue.

Edit: tried switching mouses, and now neither mouse works. Tried switching ports, still nothing. And my computer became covered in error prompts
Restarting it now. Will lock if it-

I just looked up and it's trying to check for corrupted files. Fuuuuuuuuuuck

then use a different usb port

All is well now I guess
Gotta go to bed now though. I was looking for a more permanent solution, so if anyone thinks they know what I can do to prevent it in the future, they can go ahead and post it.

Looks like it's repairing itself just fine, it doesn't appear as if any of your actual data has been lost.

I didn't lose anything, the only reason it started a repair was because I held down the power button on my computer tower to turn it off.
