Author Topic: Musical Instruments Project - Modeler(s) needed!  (Read 8841 times)

I won't stop anyone if they want to make a mandolin model (ANY instrument models would be appreciated) but a whole new set of sounds is probably unnecessary.  I could make an extra octave of guitar samples and have it use that if someone does make a mandolin, though.
a mandolin sound nothing like a guitar if i knew how this worked i could make some mandolin sounds and model (after i get my pc fixed)

But then again, it looks cute when it's just gold.
Yeah, but the pearls and piston rods could at least be colored differently.

Wow, this looks really nice! Good job! ;)

That a mandolin sounds "nothing" like a guitar is an exaggeration.  Bottom line, I want to avoid having too many instrument sounds as an issue of both datablock limit and filesize.  A mandolin sounds enough like a high-pitched steel-string guitar that it's probably redundant to have both a "guitar" soundset and a "mandolin" soundset.  Likewise, if someone made an old-fashioned lute model, it would probably use the guitar soundset as well.

All this depends, of course, on what instruments anyone actually models.  If someone made a mandolin you could maybe convince me to add an extra soundset, but for now it's not necessary.

Instruments done so far:

I bet you were thinking about posting that for a while huh ;)

It actually didn't occur to me until I got around to posting it.  A few replies seemed to be under the impression that the list of instrument sound sets was a list of finished instruments or a list of "these are the instruments that have to be done, no others" or something.  I posted that to make sure it was clear that it's just a list of the sounds I made, and could easily apply to any similar-sounding instrument.

I could model a few instruments, but idk about anything beyond that, like animations or exporting it.  After years of half-assery, I still can't get that to work.

Oooh, this sounds interesting, would love to see this.
RPG servers will finally have the much needed musicians walking around. ;P

For Medieval and Renaissance RPs/RPGs, a lute.

Yes, such would be appreciated if someone would model it.

Ah, what the hell, I'll help out.

Any particular priorities as to what instrument(s) you want done first? If not, I'm gonna start on a fullsized Harp and a Violin.

Want me to use my standard style (examples 1, 2, 3) or would you rather me be a bit less... verbose with the fine details/polygons?

I honestly think that it's important to have detail on the instruments, but naturally, because they're instruments, they shouldn't have any superfluous bells n' whistles.

Also, removed pagestretch.

I'm more of a fan of less detail, emphasized feature - something that fits Blockland more

Not so much ridiculous detail would be preferable.  I want them to look nice, obviously, but too many superfluous details would be kind of distracting.
