Author Topic: Musical Instruments Project - Modeler(s) needed!  (Read 8847 times)

I've been pushing to get proper playable musical instruments in Blockland for a while now, and it seems we're now closer than ever.  Port has developed working ABC notation, and I've put together a bunch of instrument samples, and together it sounds beautiful.

We are still in desperate need of instrument models, though.  If you can model and want to get a head start, here's a list of the instrument samples I've made to give you an idea of what to make.  Or, if you want to listen to them yourself, here's the zip I put together for Port.
  • Banjo
  • Bass (acoustic)
  • Cello
  • Clarinet
  • Electric bass
  • Electric guitar
  • Flute
  • Free reed aerophone (harmonica, melodica, accordion, reed organ, your choice really)
  • Guitar (acoustic)
  • Harp
  • Marimba
  • Saxophone
  • Annoying Orangeet
  • Tuba
  • Violin

Pending: (will make sounds for if anyone models them)
  • Bassoon
  • Oboe
  • French Horn
  • Steel Drum
  • Trombone
  • new Annoying Orangeet sounds

I could always make more instrument sounds if someone makes an instrument model they think deserves a new sound, but this is probably sufficient for now.  In the meantime, we need models.

I was actually just about to make a topic like this.

When this is made, it will be used for a little project of mine. (Not revealing until add-on release!)

Mandolin?

I won't stop anyone if they want to make a mandolin model (ANY instrument models would be appreciated) but a whole new set of sounds is probably unnecessary.  I could make an extra octave of guitar samples and have it use that if someone does make a mandolin, though.

More types of sax, strings and a bassoon would also be nice.

Also trombone, but how to animate that.

I'll put together more instrument samples as they become necessary, but a fair number of instruments will probably end up sharing the same sounds; just look at how many could share the "free reed aerophone" sound!  It all depends on how many instruments anyone actually models, and at this point we're up to a grand total of zero.

The bassoon is a good idea, though.  I'll definitely add oboe-family sounds if anyone models any of those.

Optional, but if you want it:  Bagpipes or Uillean Pipes

I think that there needs to be more strings at least.  Pretty distinct.  You can sorta get away with using alto sax sounds for tenor, but there are many saxophone players here, and they'd rage over that if they have decent ears.

hi! i help now ya

edit: i can't tell which one looks nicest, you guys pick

I wish I could have my computer back already so I could model you some stuff, please don't abandon this project if it takes 1 or 2 more weeks without any models done

I've been pushing for instruments in Blockland for months, so I don't think I'll be abandoning this any time soon!
