Author Topic: First ground zero storm outbreak for STL 2014 [The big one is coming]  (Read 3498 times)

Always exciting for me.  St Louis is locked on target with good potential for a major severe weather outbreak on Thursday afternoon/evening.

Risks include (for Thursday)

- Multiple rotating supercells
- Large hail in excess of two inches
- Straight line wind gusts in excess of 58mph
- Strong, long track tornadoes of great magnitude (EF2 or higher)
- Repeated, often cloud-to-ground lightning
- Raging downpours with flooding

Timeline of events:

Tonight
Wednesday
Thursday

Hit and miss thunderstorms
Squall line at 11am-12pm
Large rotating supercell thunderstorms
Rain
Hail to the size of quarters
Hail as big as softballs
Very slight possibility of pea-sized hail
Strong winds in excess of 58mph
Strong wind

Minimal possibility of weak tornadoes
Large, extremely dangerous tornadoes

To a storm chaser such as myself, it'll be the best day ever.  Still hoping that nothing gets destroyed and people don't get hurt though.

EF2 or higher?!?!

Thats a really fun Thursday in St Louis.

EF2 or higher?!?!

Thats a really fun Thursday in St Louis.

Lambert International Airport was directly hit by an EF3 tornado a couple years back.  It stopped air traffic for a couple of days at least.

If you hit your head on something say

"What a rush"

Hopefully no one gets picked up by a tornado and gets slammed onto the ground.

lucky

id love to have some serious storm activity but no
loving sun

Why would you want serious storm activity?

Why would you want serious storm activity?
Its a rush. I lived in a hurricane zone for a while, and I loved it.

Profile says XR is 17. Yeah like his parents will let him chase tornadoes.
And it is still April 1st so...

My own predictions + meteorologist help from online.  The front that is coming for Wednesday is running through Utah right now.  The Thursday one will be forming off the coast of California tonight.
