stuffty logo by me. If you can make a better one, please do.

"Blockscape" is a new Game Mode I'm designing. I'm planning for it to revolve around exploration, resources, and adventure. It's currently in a very early state, with a few main gameplay aspects and a HUD mockup.

Last week I hosted an "[Alpha]" public test for the mining system. It turned out alright.

As you can see here, the terrain generates as you walk.

Here's the current HUD. It works great, but it definitely isn't final.

The mining system is how you'd expect it to be. It makes ores fun to obtain.

There is currently also building, allowing you to place wood gathered from trees.

Looks really good. I've always found the resource gathering and mining adventure aspect pretty neat and interesting. And that GUI looks lovey.

GUI looks great. Generation is meh.

The god damn brick count. It's too low for land exploration to really be feasible - I've had to resort to cutting terrain generation at a certain brick count (150,000) so the game can proceed for longer before the necessary wiping of the bricks.

Save chunk data in memory and delete bricks as players walk away. Offload it to a disk after a while. Load as needed rather than generating.

Man its like a Blockland/Minecraft

Damnit baddy, give us Infinite bricks!

i thought when port or whoever hosted their terrain generator it completely surpassed 150,000 bricks

The terrain generation in this is capped at 150,000 so people can continue to mine.

This looks hell a' fun. Gib it now.

Everything is good except the buttons
the buttons look ew.

I showed my kid brother this, his computer is stuff. Is it optimized well for toasters?

imo it's too much like minecraft

here's an idea - if you 'mine' a block, a stud will be broken instead of a 4xcube. this will likely hurt brickcount so you could do what the trench mod does and combine bricks into one if they're the same or whatever. to make mining easier, you could have pickaxes cut away areas the size of a 4x cube and have bare hands cut out a stud etc

or if that's too hard, you could add some non-cube bricks to the generator. have a 4x4 plate grass brick which would be placed on top of dirt and have 4x cube sized cylinders for the tree trunks etc

There is a queue system when generating terrain, so they are planted one by one instead of all at a time.

I'm currently working on a chunk-based saving/loading system, so chunks are saved and deleted if players aren't in them for 10 seconds and re-loaded when players come close again.

Sounds great, hopefully you can take some unfinished elements shown here ->http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=211663.0
This looked cool, but then it perished.
