Author Topic: I'm just wondering with the whole extensions on websites  (Read 598 times)

Theres extensions right like .com .au and such but how are they created? Could someone give me insight

It's a little thing that people use when they buy a site. They have free ones like .TK which I use for my site. Net, Com, Org, and all of those just described the site. Com is for community I belive, Net is for network, Org is for orginization, gov for government, etc. Some are cheaper to buy than others to.

I thought it was commercial

Mabey, I don't know everything about them.

.com is commercial lol

also you still havent given OP a straight answer. but from what i know they're registries and managed by whatever country the extension is (ex .ro would be romania, .ru would be russia)

I know but how do they make them? It's something i'd like to know (I know it'd be impossible for me to make one) but yeah.

they don't make them, they're just registries afaik. and yeah you can't make them, only IANA does

Some are for different purposes, some are just different countries. Apparently you can still get a domain for the ussr.

How do they get ones like nyan.cat though?

That's what I want to know.

I followed that to, "Delicious".
