I did get a new battery a while back, but after a while, the problems returned
So i doubt it's a battery problem

Alright, i'll have to try that then

how much did the laptop cost?
I don't actually recall...

Try cleaning out the fans and see if that helps the overheating
I've tried blowing dust out of the vents and shaking and clearing gunk out from the keyboard, hasn't had much of an effect so far though

By the way, i'm not sure how tired i was when i last mentioned what kind of laptop i have, but it's not a L5570 or whatever it was i had, it's a Satellite L755D

I have the same issue with my Acer Aspire One D270-1824. If it isn't the battery that's causing it, them it can either be a problem with the AC adapter or the DC power jack inside the laptop.

probably something related to the power jack on the laptop. either the whole board's dead like pecon said, or the pin in the jack is damaged in some way. i had similar issues with getting my laptop to charge & random shutdowns and eventually it refused to charge altogether. i took it to a repair shop and was able to get it fixed for a hundo bux, including the diagnosis fee. that's probably your most painless course of action. you could also try to buy the board and replace it yourself like pecon suggested.
Note: i dont kno stuff about laptop power stuff, so dont blame me if u get forgeted
