Aren't compounds more powerful than recurve bows?
Fun fact: Up until recently (around world war 2), trained longbowmen were more effective than soldiers with guns, but guns were cheaper and easier to train for.

Fun fact, switching from Recurve to Compound is far easier than from Compound to Recurve.
Its to do with the difference in shooting style from what I was told.

Compounds do something about weight, but recurves have a more 'natural' feel to it, iirc.

That looks a lot like an AT4 to me but I'm unsure.

It is a javelin alright. AT4s don't fire large missiles. The AT4 is much smaller and fires an unguided missile.

they have a bad rep in America too. my friend has a recurve and I've shot with it a couple of times, it isn't ancient history.

Recurve is way more challenging so it's more fun.
Compound is more to do with the aiming skill which the shooter has (which is pretty easy) you can easily get to 'Grand Master Bowman' in a few months on a compound. Recurve is natural as you say, and is much more fun. There are downsides to a recurve, like the fact they're bigger and not as powerful, but I think it's safe to say that there is definitely more respect in recurve.

For us, we jabbed the arrows through tennis balls. We then dipped the tennis balls in kerosene and set them on fire before shooting. We did it at night and lit up the sky.
