according to science, tomatoes are actually every color except for red!
but isn't the color of something just the wavelength of light that it reflects?
so it's still just red?
I think the entire existence of the word "atheist" is useless and arbitrary. Is there a word for non-skiers? Are there groups of people that meet to discuss the fact on how they don't ski?
It kind of is. The only real reason it exists is because of the extreme prevalence of religion, I guess.
I find it embarrassing to put myself under a category of the same kinds of people who preach the fact that they don't believe in preaching.
...They don't?
That is why I consider myself agnostic, because I don't want to be assumed as that kind of person.
Okay, so you're not agnostic because you are actually agnostic, but you're agnostic because you don't want to be called an atheist?
When someone puts me under a group of people with those actions, they assume I do the same as all of them; reasonably so.
It's not reasonably so, but it is true.
Christians believe in god, so usually if you say you're christian you believe in God. Atheists don't believe in god, so if you say you are atheist then you are assumed to not believe in God.
Okay, I guess.
What society has done to this adjective is assume that everyone who calls themselves an atheist, does the same actions towards God that most atheists do. Atheists that I know are all up in my face, living an atheist life trying to change how people live according to how they do.
Okay. Of course, it could just be that the majority of atheists really aren't like that, but I don't know.
I don't have the want to do any of that, so I consider myself agnostic.
Wow, really?
So you aren't actually agnostic, you just call yourself agnostic because you don't want to have to force yourself into a definition of atheist that isn't really a definition of atheist?
I mean, the definition of atheist isn't "person who doesn't believe in any deities and goes around telling everyone that and trying to deconvert them from their religion", it's just "person that doesn't believe in any deities".
It's also just like saying "Christians that I know go around preaching about how great their religion is, why you should convert, and why other religions are wrong. I don't have the want to do any of that, so I consider myself nonreligious." when you don't have to do any of that to be a Christian.
I mean, if you're really one of those "it is impossible to know" type of guys, just say that instead.
it's not "lacking" belief it's rejection of the concept of a god at all
No, I'm pretty sure it's just lacking a belief.
