and next year we have to do common core testing rather than the state-standard STAR testing.

What's STAR?
Is it a state-issued test? In Arizona, we have the AIMS test, Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards.

My school uses STAR. It's pretty much a online test. I did the test before, so it's not like I don't know.

STAR is basically a reading test that you take in school. It's kind of difficult, though I have the highest STAR level in the class. It's also associated with something called AR (Accelerated Reader).

Neat.
We'll be the first Year 6 to do the SATs without a calculator this year.

STAAR is an acronym meaning: State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness. It doesn't only encompass reading, it covers all subjects including Math, Science, Social Studies, and English.
I took that in elementary school lol
It is also given in Middle School.
STAAR was made to replace the TAKS test ( Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) the STAAR is different in two ways to TAKS, it's more difficult, and it's timed to four hours.
Well, at least thats the STAAR we have in Texas.

In California, we had the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR)
http://www.startest.org/

stuff
The math star for 6th grades was surprisingly easy, the reading one was a lot harder.

We (my township/district), take STAR online, though we also have ISTEP for up until high school, I think that's being phased out or done on computers soon.

The more answers you get correct in a row on a STAR test, the harder it gets, so you're either a genius in your class, you're bad at math, or we're talking about two completely different STARs.
