Webroot should complement any AV you pick, I highly recommend it. Webroot should be fine standalone anyways. Norton Security Suite at least should be fine if you don't run fishy programs or go on shady sites every 5 seconds outside of a sandbox/VM. I'd recommend maxing out all the settings like making sure SONAR is on aggressive if your really paranoid of something. Malwarebytes will also complement the AV you pick as a secondary scanner. SuperAntiSpyware although rather dated iirc can also be a good paranoid scanner along with Spybot - Search and Destory.

on a side note, it probably wasnt avast, i just noticed that one of my old drives are missing and upon further inspection its dead. So thats probably what was giving me the boot issues.
