Author Topic: The obesity trend in America is amazing  (Read 8239 times)

How about instead of arguing about semantics, you could discuss the topic on hand, it will end much better for everyone.

I've noticed a lot of overweight people are generally pretty rude and ungrateful and just generally unpleasant people. Like they push in front of you in a line, or everything has to be their way. Not all of them are like that I'm sure, but some of ones I have met are prime examples.

Steemer's advice seems useful. I'm wondering what I should do to increase my endurance.

I'm no professional, but perhaps doing rather light exercises (jogging) for a period of time in the area you want to increase your endurance would help. Make sure they are not to repetitive though. Also, your stance when running long distance is pretty important, it's more relaxed than a sprinting stance.

I wonder if Siberian Husky will come back to rebut our points.

Please do. And be sure to tell us how it's correct.  Evidence is no good without argument.
Snippet of Wikipedia: Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have a negative effect on health.

a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury.

1) Condition/Disorder.
2) Structure+Function affected.
3) Human
4) Symptoms and Signs: Rolling down the highway.

Just because it's a "disease" that doesn't mean it isn't self induced.

Just to clarify since this isn't very clear
The second line is the definition of disease

Also the term disease says nothing about cause. Classifying something as a disease does not mean it's suggesting that it's any less their fault for being that way.

While I'm trying to loose weight, I can't really exercise as much as I'd liked too because of asthma, though I do try to eat as healthy as I can.

I'm like 115 and 6' and I eat stuff all day lol. My metabolism is rediculous and I wish it could taper off just a little so I wasn't so goddamn skinny, but that I wouldn't be fat lol.

OBESITY.
IS.
A.
DISEASE.

LOOK IT UP FOR forget SAKE. I REPEATED MYSELF 2 TIMES TRYING TO GET THIS ACROSS TO YOU GUYS:
Obesity is a disease. Disease does not mean contagious. Lung disease is a bloody disease and it is not contagious and usually does not happen because of a certain genetic trait.

You smoke stuff to get (usually) lung disease. You each too much and do not exersize to get obese.
getting fat is your body's natural reaction to overrating.  It's actually supposed to happen and in certain amounts fat is actually healthy.  Lung disease is different.  Lung disease is caused by the damage done by smoking.  Very different conditions.

Your brown townogies are correct, but it doesn't show why obesity is a disease.
Please do. And be sure to tell us how it's correct.  Evidence is no good without argument.
you guys are literally handicapped as forget and should stop posting.  i hope neither of you pursue careers in the medical field.

And with that, we've wrapped up another argument on the Blockland Forums. Same time next week everyone?

Just because it's a "disease" that doesn't mean it isn't self induced.
I never said it wasn't self-induced. That is why I am using smoking as an example...

America was a food experiment on the influences of corn based substitutes in food. It's the only place in the world that replaces sugar with high fructose corn syrup.
It's obvious that the experiment yields results.

Unfortunately, because the food substitutes are cheaper, they won't be changing back any time soon.

This.

Also, guys - here's how we determine if obesity is a disease. It's pretty simple, really.

If obesity is a disease, how come pretty much anyone who is obese can say, "You know what? I'm going to stop being fat," work it off, and stop stuffing themselves?

How many diseases do you know of where you can make a conscious decision to get rid of it and just do it? No many, if any.

It's a health problem, yes. It's a disease? Not really. It's just being fatter than a fat person.

I don't think you actually know what a disease is :v

How about underweight people?

How about underweight people?
