The Bahamas was a British colony for a long time, including the time during WWII. When the United States forgeted itself into 50 pieces, and the British lost to Germany, the Bahamian economy crumbled to stuff. No economy, no military. (and the government already had no military when it gained independence in the late 1960's)

Also, the British owned the Bahamas, and when British and United States' military most likely disbanded, so did whatever protection the Bahamas had.
