a. your state won't be shown on the map because it isn't recognized as an actual country
b. after you annex another state/own enough territory, you can declare yourself an independent nation

becoming an independent nation:

- will not only allow you to interact with outside countries more extensively, but will also cause the bonuses and penalties for your relationship with the soviet union/greater german reich to metastasize

- will make you more self sufficient, lowering the desire for the superpowers to supply you

- as mentioned above, will force one, the other, or both superpowers to hate you for recreating the united states

- will lose (democratic/communist/fascist) party of america support, forcing you to create your own system of government

- the more independents there are, the stronger the individual states' resolve becomes

- war exhaustion, depletion of resources, and manpower all become a serious concern

- waging war back-to-back and building 9 million pershings + fielding 1 million troops and tossing them at a problem endlessly is no longer an actual thing. you have resources, you have manpower, and you need to manage them appropriately

- interaction with foreign powers will change how other nations feel about you too

- annexing entire states now becomes a serious issue due to rebellions and rejection of government as well as warmongering penalties viewed by foreign nations

- when you declare war, you will need a casus belli (will be assigned by me at the moment)
