Laptop suggestions?

Author Topic: Laptop suggestions?  (Read 635 times)

I want to get a Windows 8 laptop, but I don't know which one to get. My budget is around $300. I don't really want all of those useless features like a touchscreen, or turning into a tablet. I just want a standard laptop with decent hardware.

The Windows 7-based laptops will be on clearance prices, and most laptops retail for about twice the manufacture prices.

$300 is fairly limited, although I might just be under Australian prices and you might things a lot cheaper where you are. Your best bet would to look through eBay/Craigslist/any digital seller and do some comparisons.

Just don't go for a Chromebook. They have very poor magnetic resistance and the touchpad will refuse to work depending on what surface you place it on.

I don't really want this for gaming. I just want a laptop that won't lag when I use it for normal things.

And by the look of these laptop prices, I think I can get a Windows 8 laptop within my budget.

Holy hell. You can get Laptops THAT cheap?!

Goddam you, import taxes.

Even the electronics are trying to kill you in Australia.

OT: Help me pick one from that page.

You can't really buy much with 300 when it comes to laptops

  • AMD A4-1200 1.00 GHz - It's actually kind of decent for a small laptop, and good power efficiency.
  • 2GB DDR3L 1066 MHz - Might be a problem considering Window 8's native RAM requirement, but should work fine.
  • AMD HD 8180 Graphics with shared graphics memory - Again, not incredible but pretty decent for something costing that size.

Honestly, it sounds like a cheaper version of a Pavilion I sold back in January, and thing was kind of nifty. Only problem is no CD-Drive, but you can always get a portable one if you need it. I'd go for this if you really want it.

stuff, I need a cd drive. I didn't notice that there wasn't one. I am planning to dual boot Windows 8 with Arch Linux.
