Author Topic: science debate megathread  (Read 8784 times)

why do you insist on burying yourself like this blueblur

gamefandan refuted that point before you even decided to make it

"evolution is a fairy tale for grown-ups"

And the bible isn't?

I've never really heard the whole GMO debate. Where did people think it was poison come from? Was it a specific study/event/writing, or did people just always fear scientists modifying things in nature?
Fear mongering, people not understanding science, etc.
There was one study that "showed" that a round-up resistant corn caused cancer is rats, but the study was proven flawed and the findings retracted. But Anti-GMO people don't care and continue citing it anyways

From my point of view, the Bible is a book and religion is just that book's fandom.

Okay then. I'll pick a different aguement.

You guys are both dumb because you care if the other person eats/refuses to eat GMOs
I never argued that at all. I was arguing that an irrational fear of scientific intervention has the propensity to shut down global campaigns for hunger and malnutrition eradication. But yeah, I'm totally dumb for giving half a stuff about the 16,000holy stuff it's actually 21,000 now people who starve to death every day.

"I hate GMO's! also, can i have some doritos?"

let's face it- we've been eating GMO's for a very, very long time. Maybe they aren't as bad as we think

Classy way to force yourself out of an argument while taking a weak dig at both sides

Only the internet

Except this thread isn't focusing on religion specifically, and that's an extreme generalization

Also, the people who stuff themselves if you even come close to mentioning nuclear power (not saying anyone who wants to restrict nuclear power is bad, there is a legit concern. Just the people who think its going to kill everyone). They think that ever plant will end up like Chernobyl, and fail to realize that it helps actually extends lifetime on average for people by decreasing dependence on messy fossil fuels.

Oh, I see. Yeah I don't think anyone who is actually hungry is going to give a stuff about the dangers of GMOs. I have to side with Seventh on this one.

I got a list of 2000 gmo studies get on my level

No they're not. There's a lot of anti-GMO propaganda from people who don't like it because they think it's 'unnatural' but very little actual science showing that GMOs are bad for you. There was a French study done with a few dozen lab mice that showed that mice who consumed GMO corn grew tumors, but the sample size was very small and it was performed with lab mice that spontaneously generate tumors for cancer research. I think what it boils down to is that people distrust them because they aren't natural, which means very little and doesn't actually make them bad or good for you.

I can link you to a video where an actual cancer researcher brown townyzes the current science being done with GMOs. He explains things very clearly and actually understands the material he's talking about.
Well some of them are seedless, which forces farmers to be dependant annually on the seed companies.
There's a lot of potential for shady practices here if they go unchecked.

Post it then
I found that earlier, tried to find it again, didn't care enough and stopped when I found that

This has nothing to do with safety of consumption though
