The way this guy talks about him being amazing and perfect seems to be like he is trying to boost his self confidence by simply denying that there is anything wrong with him. I think the point he was making is not that the actual practice is done all the time, but that mentally ill people are not the only ones that do it. That healthy ones do it too (a lot, to his gesture).

The "lol" was posted as a tension diffuser, to show that I wasn't deeply impacted by the event. Regardless, if I did think it was funny, I'd think it was funny that the event actually connects to my (or more directly, my sister's) life, not that some girl was hurt by this guy.
