Author Topic: Chromebook or something similar for under $150?  (Read 2090 times)

so, my brother and i have not always had a very good relationship. we tend to fight a lot and sometimes i find myself being extremely angry at him for no apparent reason. well he recently went down to Arizona for the week and when he came back he gave me a bunch of stuff he bought for me while he was down there. i have been wanting to get him something for a long time now and he has been wanting a Chromebook/similar for a long time. i will have about $300 dollars by the end of next week and i plan on buying him one. i REALLY don't want to blow all the money i just worked hard for but i am willing to spend half of it on him.

so what i need is a Chromebook or something similar that's $150 or below.

P.S. he tends to use his electronics A LOT. so it would be nice if you guys could find something that was durable aswell.

Do not get a Chromebook.

Aside from the overall uselessness in only being able to browse the web, they seem to have some weird magnetic resistance (or whatever) issues; if you put them on certain surfaces, the touchpad refuses to work at all until you pick it up.

That said, not sure what else you could get for $150.

What McJobless said. He got it covered. We have them at our school and they're better than what we had before but that's not saying much.

Does your brother have interests in other electronics besides laptops? You're not going to be able to find much else laptop-wise

well he has an Xbox 360, Kindle fire, several stupid little android phones, and a LG cosmos.

i wanted to get him a Desktop computer but i knew i wouldn't find one for $150 or under.

Give me one of your android phones.

chromebooks are aimed at students, businesses, and people that actually want to get work done without all the bullstuff thats usually included with windows
theyre a reliable laptop that has pretty much everything a student would need so whats wrong with it?
and im pretty sure your personal experience is some sort of non-chromebook related issue or just a defective model, which can be replaced rather easily

Install ubuntu or some other os onto the chromebook.

get a raspberry pi

it can only barely run the internet; it's really a programming computer

but it's $35

hes a very simple person when it comes to computers. he prolly doesn't even know the difference between a Mac and a PC. he wants a computer to play minecraft and surf youtube to watch pewdiepie.

SLAY HIM

he wants a computer to play minecraft
then don't get him a chromebook

My mom bought a Chromebook and I think it's pretty neat. I really have no need for one personally, but if you're getting it for someone that plays nothing but smartphone games and browses the web it's a solid netbook. It's also pretty good if you want it for classes, as long as they don't require any programs. I used it for my math class a few times since I bought the book as an e-book.

If he wants to play minecraft the chromebook might not be a good idea. For everything else you said it would be a good buy

We had 4 models that worked perfectly both in the office and were working the store until we put them onto the surface for display.

I could have sold about 6 of them too, which is the most annoying bit.
