it does matter because with subscriptions you're shelling out money on a regular basis, and based on the total amount you would be able to afford the one-time fee of a particular item with relative ease. the values are all relative and situational but given his example he's entirely correct.

If you can afford a Chromecast but not an electronic device that supports it, then why even own a Chromecast? I listed those things because YOU NEED THEM in order to use it. The Chromecast is just a wireless HDMI receiver. Even then, it's incredibly limited.
