Heres some pics of the old citadel:

and The Consul's office:

I really wish they kept these old versions of these places :/

There are a few different Citadels made for HL2 Beta

i can give you the download for beta to put in the op but i dont think it counts as abandonware

if i remember correctly, valve said they didn't give a forget about the beta anymore, as long as nobody releases the old source code for beta. Is it the Russian or anonymous one?

also another thing, valve stated that in the next part of the half life series, they're "bringing back psychological horror". oh goodie.

I put the hl2-beta.ru link in the OP.
(which i believe is the less-broken one)

I'm tempted to post a image of Mr friendly but I'm not sure if I could get banned for it.

Quote
Mr. Friendly's model is the size of a small horse. It was to be a crawling creature walking on hoofed legs on its back and spurs on its front, moving in a very awkward, shuffling manner and making a noise resembling "fingernails on a chalkboard". It would act as a scavenger that ate the corpses of dead enemies. This behavior would serve as a logical explanation for the disappearance of bodies that was done to improve the performance of the game.

One of its proposed attacks was to pound the ground and knock the player's weapon out of his hand. It was even suggested that Gordon's glasses fly off and leave the player stuck in combat with blurry vision, a feature that would have been challenging to implement considering the game technology available at the time. Its most recent attacks in the game's development are shown in the model animations. They show it standing on its rear legs and spanking the player with its front arms (one being a double whip), as well as vomiting.

i love how heavy the 'right out of a dystopian novel' aesthetic was in the beta but its low res as forget

Yeah I really feel like they would've gone with the original plan of the game if people hadn't have rushed valve so much
cause really the old storyline was much longer and consisted of a lot more places
Heres a pic of the old storyline:

also it seemed to contain a lot more combine tech places which I really wished there were more of
Being in the citadel was my favorite part of the games just cause of the cool feeling you get when you're in the place.

beta citadel is horrific

you can see some models and stuff from beta in the map for gmod c17_industrial, I remmember that grouping of panels and giant ball thing with lots of other panels.

where can I get a english version of beta?

yeah i was gonna say the gmod map industrial_17 (i think) basically remakes the hl2 beta city 17 in an RP map
i remember the TV sphere thing and the hall, it has a citadel exactly like that but with the black metal combine stuff instead of white ornate marble stuff or w/e
