Did you run a security check? Dunno how to do that, but I'm pretty sure there's a way to confirm if your account has been hijacked.

If you mean "Skig", you aren't supposed to login with that. You have to use whatever username you used when you first created the account. The password isn't the problem.

If you have any previous emails from the steam store you can see your original username in those (e.g receipts, market sales)

I have already checked for the activation email but couldn't find it. Maybe I'll just set up a new email. My steam account is dead anyway

Doesn't matter, they can't use it anyway unless they have the three digit code on the back of Amex and Visa cards etc.
