Author Topic: Flatflyer & his annoying obsession  (Read 25509 times)

FlatFlyer posts about birds a lot. Ok. Cool. Just because you don't like it or find it annoying doesn't give you any right to tell him he has to stop it. That's oppressive, selfish and unreasonable. The internet is not a dictatorship, it's a free, public ground and this is a (semi) public forum. You can be a birdbrain if you want, there are no rules saying you cannot be yourself.

Nobody is forcing him to stop posting about birds. People don't like it so they are complaining and telling him to stop posting about it. They have just as much of a right to complain as Flatflyer does to post about birds.

If flat was actively trying to cause problems by doing this it would be an entirely different story, but he isn't, he's just being himself.

Yes, but him "being himself" is annoying to others and making the forum more of an unpleasant experience.

If you don't like it, the right thing to do would be to simply ignore him and move on

Fair point, though it does get harder and harder to ignore.
With that logic, though, what if it was spouting hate speech? Would you stick up for him then?

but you people are instead trying to bully him into changing his ways against his will.

By "bully" you mean asking him to stop?

And I don't think that's right.

meant to remove that last quote

looks like you still don't get it after all. I find it pretty amusing how you can be so dense

but if you'll stop being so stubborn then I guess that's cool
so, what don't I get then?

What takato doesn't realize is that this topic is not forcing flat to stop, flat realizes that it's too much and is making an effort, no matter how ineffective, to make it better.

This drama is pretty much telling him "Hey, you know that thing you were trying to do? TRY HARDER."
fair enough, but the fact that people have already bullied him into censoring himself only makes matters worse in my opinion

Nobody is literally forcing him to stop posting about birds. They're asking him to stop posting where it doesn't belong.

fixed

so, what don't I get then?

If that's the case then talking about that directly to flat instead of getting all up in arms about it in a drama topic is a much better choice

*deep breath*

Alright. I'll stop with the raging and stuffposting if everyone else does.

FlatFlyer posts about birds a lot. Ok. Cool. Just because you don't like it or find it annoying doesn't give you any right to tell him he has to stop it. That's oppressive, selfish and unreasonable. Just because the internet is open doesn't mean you can frequently shove your love for things down peoples' throats. On this forum and others, that's the purpose of megathread. Bronies and furries keep their content in a megathread and they don't post about it elsewhere. Same thing applies. It's annoying when someone constantly just keeps posting about their passion for birds or other stuff. Yes, it is flaunting it around and of course it is frowned upon.

If flat was actively trying to cause problems by doing this it would be an entirely different story, but he isn't, he's just being himself. If you don't like it, the right thing to do would be to simply ignore him and move on, but you people are instead trying to bully him into changing his ways against his will. And I don't think that's right.
We aren't telling him to not express himself, we are complaining about him posting bird-related posts everywhere. And really, bully him? You're still on this, holy crap, it's a complaint, not an attack. Ignoring the problem is not a solution, he would just keep repeating the problem without someone stepping in and telling him, y'know what, you shouldn't post about birds everywhere. So yes, he is actively causing problems because he didn't stop.

so, what don't I get then?

Imo, if he's not directly aggrigating anyone, they have no grounds to complain. If he's trying to whore attention, then don't give him what he wants by posting and telling him to stop. Ignore him and eventually he'll stop on his own.

I don't really agree with this to be honest. I can think of a lot of people who make this forum unpleasant, and most of them do that by stuffposting. Being a furry and mentioning it every now and then it isn't stuffposting.

No, I wouldn't.

In my opinion, asking him to stop is very selfish, whether you're rude about it or not. Him being a freak doesn't affect you in any way, he shouldn't have to stop being a freak just to please everyone else.

goddammit takato

we're not telling him to stop liking birds. we're telling  him to stop FLAUNTING his obsession EVERYWHERE. people really have had enough and everybody's sick of it. can't you grasp that?

also the kind of attention he wants is "woah you have a personality and I hear about it everywhere!". we're not giving him the attention he wants with this thread. in fact, by reading his posts, I can tell that flat must feel pretty upset about this thread.

Imo, if he's not directly aggrigating anyone, they have no grounds to complain.

So everyone is entitled to their opinion except when they're not? Okay.

Whether or not you agree with it doesn't matter. Seeing certain posts/people posting makes people feel bad and thus making it an unpleasant experience.

No, I wouldn't.

Hypocrite.

In my opinion, asking him to stop is very selfish, whether you're rude about it or not.

So asking someone to stop doing something that bothers you is being selfish? Okay.

Him being a freak doesn't affect you in any way

Him being a freak doesn't affect us, but him posting about birds every other post does.

he shouldn't have to stop being a freak just to please everyone else.

He doesn't have to. We're just asking him to stop posting about it all the time.

I was able to ignore Flat's getup, even got used to it. I went through a similar phase that lead to a drama too! (Which got dropped pretty softly)

Anyways, I'm not sure how often and where flat posts since I mainly stick to ~10 threads. In my experience, it's just something to skim over.

and thus
Him being a freak doesn't affect us, but him posting about birds all the time does.

I really should proofread my posts.

wow none of you know how to back off from an argument

takato seriously you've lost this one and gone so far off the rails the train is now the animal from the neverending story taking you on a loving adventure
flat already accepted that what he's been doing is wrong and he's agreed to stop and i'm mystified as to how this thread is still going as such

i feel hypocritcal for all my camel banter now
