There are a few parts to this issue and the arguments in the topic. I'd like to split them up.
1.
This is a public forum.
We might have all paid entry, but we were all free to view it and have free choice to come in and post.
There are rules here to ensure we don't do anything illegal, or scam others, or become too hostile to each other or abusive.
However, this is a public forum and you have to respect that public nature while here. You wouldn't constantly repeat things in public or put up posters of something controversial and acclined to taste everywhere.
People use this forum everyday and when they go through topics they read the posts. They might not have to read every post, but most people do.
In much the same way you wouldn't want to see a poster you disliked hung up all around town, people don't want to see a post they dislike, or the content, posted repeatedly in the forum.
It is good manners to take care and consideration in what you post, as the public do not always want to see what you post.
2.
We all have the right to insult, and be insulted.
This is primarily directed at takato and Khaz.
Every one of us has the right to be insulted by what we see. It is not correct to say we shouldn't be insulted or upset or angered.
We are all sharing this public space and we are open to content from lots of people. There will always be some content not appreciated by users.
It is our right to be insulted and upset by what we see.
It is also our right to insult others. We can not break the rules, and there is no need to be overly cruel or to constantly persecute each other solely over personal dislike.
But, if someone is insulted by what we say, such as by bringing a drama topic up to comment on the behaviour of an individual, as is the case, then that is our right to do so. It may not be malicious, or it may, but that does not mean we aren't allowed to say it.
3.
Forum etiquette.
This is very much linked to this being a public forum.
It may not be stickied at the top of every board, or even written down, but there is an etiquette here, as in most public places.
These are ways to behave in order to get along and not produce drama.
Etiquette includes being conservative in your posting in avoiding the repeat posting of things. No one likes to see the same thing written in multiple places where they have to view it. This goes double for those things controversial or distasteful.
This means furry images, furry talk, MLP, Fandoms, loveual special interestes and loveual comments.
There is a time and a place for this. It is not acceptable to constantly push these things under the noses of ofthers.
4.
Character.
One of the issues around the repeat posting of certain things is that it starts to define someone's character.
Character isn't a bad thing, but when your character is presented as one single qualuty, then it can be.
One reason is that individuals, or even groups, may find that quality undesirable and be offended by it.
Flatflyer's character can be described as "obsessed with birds and has a bird special interest".
I'm sure you can understand from above why people may not like this character and be offended by it.
As Flatflyer's actions seem to be dominated by this character it is understandable why people should be upset by his actions and even his presence, as his presence suggests that one will see such content.
Having a particularly one-dimensional character means people are more likely to dislike you and what you say and cause arguments.
The other issue with one-dimensional characters is that to many people, it is very boring.
No one wants to be around someone who has just one thing to say or one thing they enjoy.
Even if you do enjoy other things if you mention one thing constantly it is all people will recognise.
Everyone has multiple traits to like and dislike. But expressing only one to the public means you have less for people to like and a higher chance that the only thing anyone can judge you on will be disliked.
It is okay to have a particular preference to a fandom or character or concept and to incorporate it into your character.
But it is best to have plenty of interests to share and form your character. You can identify primarily as one, but using only it, or using it in excess causes problems.
As an example I will use myself. I enjoy ancient history. Should the opportunity arise I will gladly discuss it. But I like other things. Science, nature, philosophy, jokes, literature and more. I can enter a topic focussed on any of these and join in. I don’t have to bring up ancient history. I can if it is fitting, but I can choose to bring up whatever I like. I'm confident to say that for the most part I'm not judged by many people on ancient history or going on about one thing in particular, or at least have never had a drama topic made about it.
Everyone on these forums is interesting and we all want to know how interesting each person is. We can only do that if we each share a variety of interests and a colourful character. We're less likely to dislike one another, as there are other traits we can focus on besides an individual's unsavory ones, and we can comment on more than one thing.
This topic was needed.
Flatflyer has been in the wrong, and it is good that he has apologised, but that's not enough until we see change.
We don't want Flatflyer to repress his interests. But they are not shared by many people, and if he continues to post it around excessively, then it will only cause more issues. Try to keep it to the topics designed for it. The people who don't mind it are more likely to see it, and those who don't like it are only to blame for going looking for it.
