Author Topic: Dedicated Server  (Read 3918 times)

I have steam, and me and my friends built a big server that I wanted to host on my Server PC. Where can I get the server software if I have steam. I don't want to run  my laptop 24/7

There's going to have to be some machine somewhere running 24/7 for this to happen.

Edit: Never mind.

I can run my server PC 24/7

The dedicated server software is the game itself. It works by adding -dedicated to the command line parameters. Unfortunately for steam users, this isn't an option unless you plan on leaving that PC logged into a steam account running it's copy of Blockland, by adding the command line parameter via Right Click Blockland > Properties > Set Launch Options > type -dedicated into the box

Is this the only option? And can I play Blockland while the dedicated server is running

Yes, or you can ask someone for a server to host for you 24/7.

who would I ask?

I can make you a HammerHost Steam-auth beta tester in about 2 weeks.

Marzshine is asking for somebody to host. Did you read his last post or not?

it's valid in this case, and hammereditor is literally the only person who can presumably do this.

you might consider releasing this technology to the community. on the other hand, having a localized monopoly is pretty nice.

CBMHost is way better than hamhost because it is and will always be 100% free.
Hamhost charges/will charge money to host a server soon.
CBMHost has a control panel, and has very little lag at all. The support is great as well.
 Hamhost just #gotrekt

Since the new remote dedi-server I've been considering would have a 50-slot capacity, I'd probably make it free, except Steam users have to pay $7/month because of the heavy overhead involved.

CBMHost has a control panel
So does HammerHost. Did you ever look at the topic? It always had a web control panel. Get your facts straight first.

and has very little lag at all
So did HammerHost, after those problems in April were over. The HammerHost computer has at least as much single-core CPU power as CBM, and the CPU is never overloaded. Again, make sure your facts are correct. Have you ever played on any HammerHost-hosted BL server for a significant amount of time before?

Also your post sounds a lot like this one:
i don't feel safe giving you my key because of how you DDOS'd RTB and other negative actions.
even if you claim it is safe.

I'm not going to until HammerHost ends. When it does, I will release my Steam-auth method as well as all of HammerHost's source code for everything. Right now I have not even covered the losses by a single penny, so I deserve some income from Steam users. I think charging only Steam users $, but charging everybody else nothing, is more than fair.
